Over ninety percent of the world’s population believes in life after death. Here in America, it is down to seventy percent. Think about that for a minute. Now, consider the vast amount of time that establishes eternity; our time on Earth is truly a blink of an eye.
With this singular belief of eternal life comes the concept of life being a sacred mission, entrusted to us by the Creator, and every mission has to have a destination. Scripture, tradition, and even natural law all point to a profound truth: our journey toward eternity is shaped by three inevitable thresholds; Death, Judgment, and Final Destination. These are not meant to frighten us, but to awaken us. We are barred from crossing these by three locks that only our God is meant to open.
Death is the first threshold we must cross. It is the moment when our temporary human life gives way to the eternal, when our soul steps beyond the limits of our human existence. Though we often fear it, death is not the end, it is the opening of a door, the crossing of a threshold. It strips away illusion, ego, and earthly distraction, leaving only the truth of who we became through our earthly choices. Death reminds us that life is not measured in years but in choices. Every act of love, every sacrifice, every moment of integrity becomes part of the legacy we carry into eternity.
The second threshold is Judgment. In humanity’s limited understanding, we hope this is not a courtroom of condemnation but a moment of divine clarity and mercy. The judgment levied upon us will reveal the alignment between our life’s mission and God’s design for us. It is the ultimate encounter with truth; the truth about our intentions, our actions, and the love we either embraced or resisted. In that moment, excuses fall away, and what remains is the story we wrote with our free will. The choices we made in selecting our path at the many crossroads of human life. God’s judgment will be the mirror of our soul, reflecting not what we claimed to be, but what we truly became. Our soul entered this world pure and unstained, what will the image in the mirror reflect back upon us?
The third threshold we must cross is the one revealing our Final Destination, the eternal home selected by the choices of our earthly journey. Heaven is not a reward earned by perfection; only God is perfect. It is a promise fulfilled when we choose to accept Jesus as our Savior and to live God’s mission for us, with faith, humility, and love. God desires every soul to reach His heavenly destination just as pure as our earthly life started. Due to our flawed human nature, this requires us to repent and to remain shrouded in His grace. Yet, we are never forced, He honors the freedom He gives us. Our eternal home will be the natural consequence of the direction we chose to walk. If we choose to walk toward the Light, the Light will joyously receive us. If we choose to walk away from it, God will respect even that tragic choice with a destination suitable of our earthly wishes.
Here, the Power of the Wisdom of Three shines brightly. Having only three thresholds is not a random accident, they mirror the many divine maps, a triadic pattern woven into the fabric of God’s creation of humanity. Just as every natural law reflects order, these spiritual laws reflect purpose. They guide our decisions, shape our character, and remind us that life is not accidental. It is intentional.
When we understand these eternal truths, we live differently. We love more deeply. We forgive each other more freely. We pursue our mission with clarity and courage. And when our earthly journey ends, we do not fear the entryways ahead, we welcome them, knowing we have lived the life God entrusted to us. Fulfill your mission, the “way” Jesus died for. Walk in truth. Live in love. For those who do, the final threshold we desire will be unlocked into eternal glory.
